Once upon a time, back in 1995 actually, Computer Fairs Australia began organizing computer markets throughout Sydney and regional NSW.
Many customers may still recall those early fairs at Parramatta or Sydney Town Hall, they were a combination of retail sales and swap meet – new CD burners cost over $1,000 and long forgotten names such as Commodore64 and Amiga where still popular with enthusiasts. Windows 3.11 was the dominant operating system and a decent PC was a 486 with 100MB hard disk.
Ipods hadn’t been invented. Paul Keating was our Prime Minister……
The New Trend in Technology
Here, in 2010, the demand for computer products is vastly different from that of 1995, and the merging of computer and entertainment technologies has broadened the market for technology products in the home. Combine this with the rapidly growing availability and acceptance of products designed for environmental sustainability such as grid-connected solar systems, chemical-free pool disinfection units, and domestic wind turbines – it becomes clear that “mainstream” has become “tech-head”.
With this shift in mind, we will be broadening our focus to seek out and promote technology products that do more than entertain and inform– products and technologies that can provide genuine payback and quality of life improvements. Imagine being able to swim in your freshwater pool without the ever present smell of chlorine! Feel the joy of a power bill with credits!
Our Mission
In line with this paradigm shift, our mission is to seek out and identify technology products across a wide range of applications and to make them available to our customers either directly through our website, or at any of our computer fairs via our select group of authorized vendors.
So, in future, do not be surprised if, at one of our fairs, you find a traditional PC-type vendor with the usual array of motherboards, video cards etc next to a vendor offering grey-water recycling, photo-voltaic solar systems, or ultra-violet pooling disinfection units!
We look forward to the new decade, and the changes to come!
